Clinical Pilates at Balanced Osteopathy, London

What is clinical Pilates?

The benefits of pilates for strength, pain, posture and flexibility are well known, but often many traditional pilates exercises are innappropriate for an individual who is in pain. Certain moves can be difficult to achieve if you have chronic neck pain, disc injury, sciatica or back pain for example. Clinical pilates is a branch of pilates that is specifically designed for this demographic, aka a patient, and works on the typical weaknesses that we see amongst patient's who have pain - reduced core activation in chronic lower back pain, lower pelvic floor strength or control in a postnatal patient.

Crucially, the person delivering your pilates is a healthcare professional (Osteopath), who is aware of the specifics of your past medical history, any current or historic injuries you may be working with and will tailor and adapt a plan around your needs and goals.

Who is clinical Pilates good for?

Clinical Pilates is suitable for all, and especially suited to those who are either in pain or have struggled with a group class setting. We often work with individuals who have no prior experience with pilates. Clinical pilates is especially useful for those with back pain, neck pain, for pre and post natal patients and for those looking for a more bespoke pilates journey.
Your one to one Pilates experience at Balanced Osteopathy
Our one-to-one pilates classes are mat-based, working the entire body through a series of exercises aimed at improving your strength, co-ordination and mobility. Your pilates instructor is APPI qualified and a registered osteopath, meaning that you can expect high attention to detail on alignment and hands-on correction to maximise benefit and prevent injury. Exercises are designed to increase muscle strength and endurance, as well as flexibility, and to improve posture and balance.

At Balanced Osteopathy, we recognised the need to combine the hands-on osteopathic treatment experience with a clinical pilates session and have found this suits many of our patients. As a result, we developed our signature combination session of 30 mins osteopathy, followed by 30 mins clinical pilates.

You can also choose to do a 45 minute or 60 minute standalone clinical pilates session, and we reccomend buying a package of 5 to save 15% off of your total cost.
